John Schoenbeck

General Manager

John Schoenbeck is a "Class A" PGA Member, with over twenty-two years of private club management experience. John came to Lake Toxaway from Memphis where he was the General Manager for Colonial Country Club, past host of over 30 PGA Tour events. Prior to Memphis, he was in Texas for eight years, where he served as Managing Director for a portfolio of private clubs, including The Woodlands Country Club, host of the PGA's Insperity Champions Tour event. Prior to his move to Texas, John was a club General Manager in the Atlanta area and a Head Golf Professional in Nashville.

Originally from Wisconsin, John graduated from Mississippi State's PGM program (professional golf management). John has been married to his wife Sandy for fifteen years and in his spare time enjoys golf, motorcycles, biking, running and rooting for the Packers.

Lou Biago

Director of Golf

Lou Biago has been the Head Golf Professional for Lake Toxaway Country Club since 1982. Prior to 1982 Lou worked at the Philadelphia Country Club during the summer months and Lost Tree Club in North Palm Beach, Florida in the winter. Lou won the Philadelphia Assistant Championship in 1980.

Lou was born in northeast Pennsylvania and learned the great game of golf from his father. He played on the University of North Carolina’s Asheville golf team for two years prior to graduation. Lou turned pro in 1975 and became assistant pro for the Country Club of Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina and then made his way to Wilmington, Delaware working for the Dupont Country Club.

Assistant General Manager

Chris is the newest member of our team. He joins us after six years at Kinloch Golf Club in Richmond, Virginia. Chris begin working in the hospitality industry at the age of 18 in Northern Virginia. Prior to living in Richmond, Chris worked at Lansdowne Resort, RTJ Golf Club, Tower Club Tysons and Waterford Receptions. Passionate about the food and beverage industry, Chris is active in the Club Managers Association of America to continue his education and knowledge of club operations. 

Chris enjoys sports, wine, hiking and spending time with his family. Chris and his wife Traci have three grown children. 

Stephen Walls

Head Superintendent

Stephen Walls comes to Lake Toxaway with over 12 years experience in golf course maintenance. Most recently, Steven served as the Regional Superintendent for a collection of properties in the Washington, D.C., area including Augustine Golf Club, Old Hickory Golf Club and the Virginia Golf Academy and Golf Center. 

Steven also worked for the PGA Tour for seven years, where he helped complete a total course reconstruction of TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms. While with the Tour, Steven worked alongside agronomists for more than 15 PGA Tour events including the Senior Player's Championship and the Greenbrier Classic. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of Golf Course Superintendents. His educational achievements include a degree in Turf Management from Penn State University and a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Maryland.

Steven and his wife Flor have two children, 6-year old Dana and 2-year old Steven, Jr. When he's away from work, Steven enjoys playing the game of golf along with watching sports, camping and spending time with his family. 

Leigh Coggins

Clubhouse Manager

As Clubhouse Manager, Leigh Coggins' primary responsibilities are supervising clubhouse operations, including the food and beverage department, and ensuring our members receive the very best service possible. 

Leigh returns to Lake Toxaway CC after spending the past three years as the F&B Manager at Cullasaja Country Club. As many of you know, Leigh previously worked at Lake Toxaway as the club's food and beverage manager prior to a stint as General Manager of Game Keeper's Tavern. 

A Cashiers native and Western Carolina grad, Leigh is excited to return to Lake Toxaway and is looking forward to renewing her relationships with the club's members inside the newly-renovated clubhouse this season. 


 

Kenny Lovett

Director of Tennis/Croquet

Kenny Lovett started working for Lake Toxaway Country Club in 1994 as the Club’s Tennis Professional. In 2012 Kenny took on the added role as Director of Croquet.

Kenny grew up in Titusville, Florida and continued his education at Tennessee Tech. He is a former college All American, and is currently a USPTA Certified Professional.

Kenny has one son, Korey Lovett, who grew up helping his dad on the courts during his summer school vacations. Korey is currently on a full tennis scholarship at the University of Alabama.

Annie Cruzan

Fitness Director

Annie Cruzan, Fitness Director, hails from Buffalo, NY and although she still loves a good snowstorm, much prefers living in the South. Her experience and training come from 25 years of working in the fitness field as a personal trainer for the Morale, Welfare and Rec Dept for the navy/Scotland, personal trainer and bookkeeper for Golds Gym/Charleston, SC, personal trainer and group exercise instructor for the North Charleston YMCA, personal and post rehab trainer and director of the human performance lab at the Medical University of South Carolina and currently Fitness Director at the Lake Toxaway Country Club.

Annie holds certifications in personal, group and post rehab training from the National Dance and Exercise Instructors Association, American Council on Exercise and American Academy of Health and Fitness Professionals. She specializes as a certified Medical Exercise Specialist through ACE and AAHFP, has a TRX basic certification, maintains First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and is a certified ACE Orthopedic Specialist.

Annie is married with one daughter, loves hiking, mountain and road biking, camping and just being outdoors.

Laura Johnson

Membership Director/Executive Assistant

Laura Johnson started working for Lake Toxaway Country Club in 2001 and was given the title Membership Director and Executive Assistant in 2003. Prior to 2001, Laura was a stay at home mom for fifteen years and enjoyed living in England and traveling throughout Europe for the majority of those years. Her earlier work experience included managing a large dental practice in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Laura was born and raised in Orchard Lake, Michigan where she graduated High School and continued her education at the University of Michigan where she majored in Business Management.

Laura is married and has two sons, loves antique shopping, spending time in her garden and decorating.

Abbey Owen

Controller/CFO

Abbey Owen is the Controller and CFO of Lake Toxaway Country Club. She is responsible for all the fiscal management, reporting and analyzing as well as directing the finance staff and is the employee relations liaison. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with an accounting degree, she moved back to Western North Carolina where she called home. Prior to joining Lake Toxaway, she was an Accountant for Transylvania County Administration.
 
Abbey is a native resident of Transylvania County. She is married to another Transylvania County native and has one son, Will. Abbey enjoys spending time with her family and hiking.


Greg McDonald

Executive Chef

Greg McDonald started working in Lake Toxaway over 30 years ago. Greg worked as co-chef for the past 10 years for, and was given the title Executive Chef for Lake Toxaway Country Club in 2015. Prior to becoming the co-chef and Executive Chef, Greg worked for the Club and Greystone Inn as the Pastry and Sous Chef.

Greg is one of 12 children, born and raised in Florida. His father was a chef and taught his children the art of cooking during their "growing up" years. After completing high school, Greg went on to train as a pastry chef under his father's guidance at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, and worked with many great chefs along the way. Greg currently has five brothers who are chefs; several of which have worked at Lake Toxaway Country Club over the years.

Greg believes that it is the responsibility of the Executive Chef to assemble and lead an exceptional culinary team to produce high quality and nutritional food while taking into account special dietary needs, allergies, and personal requests. It is important to Chef Greg to maintain a team that is capable of running the daily food operations of the Club with the goal of exceeding member and guest expectations.

Greg is married, has two daughters, and three grandsons. When not working, he enjoys fishing, kayaking, and spending time with his family.
